### Ancient Greek

καὶ ἀνελεύθεροι· ἓν γάρ τι τῶν ἀναγκαίων ἡ οὐσία, ἅμα δὲ καὶ διὰ τὴν ἐμπειρίαν ἴσασιν ὡς χαλεπὸν τὸ κτήσασθαι καὶ ῥᾴδιον τὸ ἀποβαλεῖν.

### English

They are not generous, for property is one of these necessaries, and at the same time, they know from experience how hard it is to get and how easy to lose.

Ils ne sont pas généreux, car les biens matériels font partie de ces nécessités et, en même temps, ils savent par expérience combien il est difficile de les acquérir et facile de les perdre.
