## Passage 10.7.3

### English

Curio stayed with me believing that Caesar was prostrate from popular disfavor, and distrusting his prospects in Sicily if Pompey began naval operations. I gave young Quintus a severe reception. I see that there was greed and the hope of a large cash gift. This is a great evil, but I hope there was none of that criminality we feared. You, I think, consider this fault to have arisen not from our indulgence but from his nature. Nevertheless, we shall govern him through discipline. You will decide with Philotimus what should be done about the Oppii at Velia. We shall think of Epirus as ours, but it seemed that we would take other routes.
