## What you will learn

Observe Socrates adapting questions to two interlocutors, follow the aporia of self-knowledge, and qualify the political frame constructed by Plato.

## Summary

The dialogue’s Socrates connects treatment of body with transformation of soul, then tests quietness, modesty, one’s own activity, and self-knowledge. With Critias inquiry becomes reflexive knowledge whose usefulness remains difficult to establish.

This questioning figure cannot be separated from Plato’s political frame: Charmides and Critias later belong to the Thirty’s tyranny. The text witnesses literary construction of Socratic method, not a word-for-word preserved conversation.
