## Passage 2.98

### English

When the judges applauded Corax as speaking justly, the young man took up the argument and, changing nothing, used the same reasoning. “Whether I win,” he said, “or am defeated, I do not owe Corax the fee. If I win, because I have won; if I lose, under the terms of the agreement, for I promised to pay the fee if I won my first lawsuit, but if I lose I shall not pay it.”
