Allemand
( p. 99 ) verwertet.

He himself explains biographically the details that the first shaft is followed by a longer platform and then by a new shaft. For a time he practiced coitus, then abandoned intercourse because of inhibitions, and now hopes to be able to resume it with the aid of the treatment. Toward the end, however, the dream becomes less distinct, and to an experienced observer it must seem plausible that the influence of another theme is already making itself felt in the second dream scene. The father’s business, his fraudulent conduct, and the first vagina represented as a shaft point to this theme, so that one might assume a reference to the mother.
4. The male genitalia symbolized by persons, the female by a landscape.
(Dream of a woman of the people whose husband is a watchman, communicated by B. Dattner.)
. . . Then someone had broken into the apartment, and in terror she had called for a watchman. But he had gone amicably into a church (139) with two “ruffians”; several steps (140) led up to it. Behind the church there had been a mountain (141), with a dense forest (142) at the top. The watchman had been equipped with a helmet, gorget, and cloak (143). He had had a full brown beard. The two vagabonds who had been walking peacefully with the watchman had aprons tied around their loins like sacks (144). A path had led from in front of the church toward the mountain. On both sides it had been overgrown with grass and scrub, which became increasingly dense and, at the summit of the mountain, turned into a proper forest.
5. On urinary symbolism.
The drawings reproduced here come from a series of pictures that Ferenczi discovered in a Hungarian comic paper (“Fidibusz”) and recognized as useful illustrations of dream theory. O. Rank has already used the adjacent sheet, entitled “Dream of the French Bonne,” in his work on the stratification of symbols in waking dreams, and so forth (p. 99).
