My Dear Sir
You are in that happy position
that every man feels that he has a right
to speak to you by the “word of him ”-

Having just returned from Chicago
and feeling somewhat patriotic, I desire
through you to congratulate the Great and
growing Republican party - that their representatives
at Chicago - Selected for a standard
bearer in the coming Presidential contest
The “Greatest and Best man” - If this is
not true - (and I don’t believe you know
whether it is or not) I am, not the liar-
it is the rest of “mankind” that lie-
for every body here, and between here and
Chicago except Frank Wright says it
is true - He claims that position for
S. P. Chase of Ohio - But comes down
gracefully-takes courage-and thanks
God for giving the people wisdom and

virtue enough to select the second best
man -- Now mark this, "Abe Lincoln" has
a "Poli" long enough to knock "National Democracy"
in Ohio to the tune of Ten Thousand Majority.
The sanguine boys say twenty -- In no
contingency can Ohio be classed as doubtful
Now my Dear Abe, if you have
any old shoes, boots, pants indeed any
article of clothing suitable for a growing
family -- will be acceptable -- especially
shirts or under clothing of any kind,
for I desire to get as near your hide
as I can -- I feel "Irrepressible" love springing
up in my heart -- It is entirely disinterested
It has been growing on me for the last
three days -- so I can now say of a
truth that I love you & Mrs. Lincoln
and all the little & big Lincolns -- Yea, the
