From Abraham Lincoln to William H. Seward [Copy], June 8, 1861

Executive Mansion

June 8. 1861.

My dear Sir,

Some days ago - at my request, Mr Hunter sent a list of the then unfilled diplomatic appointments.

They were, Japan, China, Costa-Rica - Honduras - Venezuela - Paragua - Chili and Peru - Japan I understand is not to be changed. China suppose we hold open for Burlingame, if we have to send a different man to Austria. Chili we have since given to Nelson. This leaves open to be disposed of now, so far as I see - Costa-Rica - Honduras - Venezuela - Paragua, Peru and Constantinople - the latter made vacant by the transfer of Gen. Webb to Brazil.

D'Abraham Lincoln à William H. Seward [Copie], 8 juin 1861

[Note marginale : Copie d'après F. W. S.]

Résidence exécutive

8 juin 1861.

Mon cher Monsieur,
