Zusatz (1914).

Die vorstehende Rechtfertigung ist im Jahre 1909 niedergeschrieben worden. Seither hat sich die Sachlage allerdings geändert; mein Beitrag zur »Traumdeutung« wird in der Literatur nicht mehr übersehen. Allein die neue Situation macht mir die Fortsetzung des vorstehenden Berichtes erst recht unmöglich. Die »Traumdeutung« hat eine ganze Reihe neuer Behauptungen und Probleme gebracht, die nun von den Autoren in verschiedenster Weise erörtert worden sind. Ich kann diese Arbeiten doch nicht darstellen, ehe ich meine eigenen Ansichten entwickelt habe, auf welche die Autoren sich beziehen. Was mir an dieser neuesten Literatur wertvoll erschien, habe ich darum im Zusammenhange meiner nun folgenden Ausführungen gewürdigt.

The foregoing justification was written in 1909. Since then, the state of affairs has indeed changed; my contribution to the “Interpretation of Dreams” is no longer overlooked in the literature. But the new situation makes it all the more impossible for me to continue the preceding report. The “Interpretation of Dreams” introduced a whole series of new assertions and problems, which authors have since discussed in the most varied ways. I cannot present these works before developing the views of my own to which the authors refer. I have therefore considered what seemed valuable to me in this most recent literature within the context of the exposition that now follows.

La justification qui précède a été rédigée en 1909. Depuis lors, la situation a certes changé ; ma contribution à « L’Interprétation du rêve » n’est plus ignorée dans la littérature. Mais cette situation nouvelle m’empêche plus encore de poursuivre le compte rendu précédent. « L’Interprétation du rêve » a introduit toute une série d’affirmations et de problèmes nouveaux, que les auteurs ont depuis discutés des manières les plus diverses. Je ne peux tout de même pas exposer ces travaux avant d’avoir développé mes propres vues, auxquelles les auteurs se réfèrent. J’ai donc rendu compte de ce qui m’a paru précieux dans cette littérature récente au fil des développements qui vont maintenant suivre.
