351. Gewissensbisse nach Gesellschaften. - Warum haben wir nach gewöhnlichen Gesellschaften Gewissensbisse? Weil wir wichtige Dinge leicht genommen haben, weil wir bei der Besprechung von Personen nicht mit voller Treue gesprochen oder weil wir geschwiegen haben, wo wir reden sollten, weil wir gelegentlich nicht aufgesprungen und fortgelaufen sind, kurz weil wir uns in der Gesellschaft benahmen, als ob wir zu ihr gehörten.

351. Pangs of conscience after social gatherings. Why do we have pangs of conscience after ordinary social gatherings? Because we treated important things lightly, because when discussing people we did not speak with complete loyalty, or because we remained silent where we should have spoken, because on occasion we did not leap up and run away; in short, because in company we behaved as though we belonged to it.
