εἰ γὰρ τὸ κινούμενον συνακολουθοῦντος αὐτῶ τοῦ κινοῦντος κινεῖται, δεήσει τῷ ὁποιῳδηποτοῦν κινουμένῳ ἐνὶ πάντα συνακολουθεῖν. εἰ γὰρ λόγου χάριν ἕκαστον τῶν εἴκοσι τεσσάρων στοιχείων ὑπὸ ἑτέρου κινεῖται, ἀναγκαῖον τῷ ἄλφα κινου- μένω ὑπὸ τοῦ βῆτα συνακολουθεῖν τὰ λοιπά, ἐπείπερ ὧς ἕπεται τῷ ἄλφα τὸ βῆτα κινοῦν τὸ ἄλφα, οὕτω καὶ τῷ βῆτα συνακολουθήσει τὸ γάμμα κινητικὸν ὂν αὐτοῦ, καὶ τῷ γάμμα τὸ δέλτα, καὶ μέχρι τοῦ ὁ).

For if what moves is moved while its mover follows along with it, everything will have to follow along with any single moving thing whatsoever. For if, by way of example, each of the twenty-four letters is moved by another, then when alpha is moved by beta the remaining letters must follow along. For just as beta follows alpha while moving alpha, so gamma, which moves beta, will follow beta; delta will follow gamma, and so on through omega.
