δισσοῦ οὖν ὄντος τοῦ α καὶ ι καὶ υ οὐ- κέτι ἑπτὰ γενήσεται μόνον στοιχεῖα φωνάεντα, ὧν δύο μὲν μακρά, τό τε η καὶ τὸ ω, δύο δὲ βραχέα, τὸ τε ε καὶ τὸ ο, τρία δὲ δίχρονα, τό τε α καὶ ι καὶ υ, ἀλλὰ τὰ σύμπαντα δέκα, καὶ τούτων τὰ πέντε μὲν μακρά, τό τε η καὶ τὸ ω καὶ τὸ μακρὸν α καὶ ι καὶ υ, ἰσάριθμα δὲ τὰ βραχέα, τὸ ο καὶ τὸ ε καὶ τὸ βραχὺ α καὶ ι καὶ υ.

Since α, ι, and υ are each twofold, there will no longer be only seven vowel letters, of which two, η and ω, are long; two, ε and ο, short; and three, α, ι, and υ, variable in quantity. There will be ten in all. Five will be long, η, ω, and long α, ι, and υ, and an equal number short, ο, ε, and short α, ι, and υ.
