Brutus, or On Eminent Orators Passage 235

Passage 235 of 334

Canonical reference 235

Latin

perseus-cicero-brutus-lat

sic Lentulus ceterarum virtutum dicendi mediocritatem actione occultavit, in qua excellens fuit .

so Lentulus concealed the mediocrity of his other oratorical qualities through delivery, in which he excelled. Publius Lentulus was not very different. The dignity of his appearance, bodily movement full of art and grace, and the sweetness and power of his voice concealed his slowness in both invention and speech. Thus he possessed nothing except delivery, and his other qualities were even slighter than those of the former Lentulus.
