εἰ δὲ κατὰ τοῦτο ἀξιώσουσιν αὐτὸν ὑπάρχειν ἐγκρατῆ, καθόσον γίνεται μὲν ἐν φαύλαις κρίσεσιν, περιγίνεται δ’ αὐτῶν τῷ λόγῳ, πρῶτον μὲν δώσουσι τὸ ὅτι οὐδὲν ὠφέλησεν αὐτὸν ἡ φρόνησις, ἀκμὴν ἐν ταραχαῖς ὄντα καὶ βοηθείας δεόμενον, εἶτα καὶ κακοδαιμονέστερον τῶν φαύλων εὑρίσκεσθαι.
