ἤτοι γὰρ καθ’ ἑαυτὸ μένον ἕτερόν τι ποιεῖ ἢ ἑτέρῳ συνελθόν. ἀλλὰ μένον μὲν καθ’ ἑαυτὸ πλεῖον αὐτοῦ καὶ τῆς οἰκείας φύσεως οὐκ ἂν δύναιτό τι ποιεῖν· συνελθὸν δὲ ἑτέρῳ τρίτον οὐκ ἂν δύναιτο ἀποτελεῖν, ὃ μὴ πρότερον ἐν τῷ εἶναι ὑπῆρχεν. οὔτε γὰρ τὸ ἓν γενέσθαι δύο δυνατόν ἐστιν, οὔτε τὰ δύο τρίτον ἀποτελεῖ.
