τῇ ἄρα συνηθεία ἐκβάλ- λοντες τὴν συνήθειαν τὸ αὐτὸ πιστὸν ἅμα καὶ ἄπιστον ποιήσουσιν. ἐκτὸς εἰ μή τι φήσουσι μὴ τὴν αὐτὴν συν- ήθειαν ἐκβάλλειν ἄμα καὶ προσίεσθαι, ἀλλʼ ὅλην μὲν ἐκ- βάλλειν ἄλλην δέ προσίεσθαι. ὅπερ καὶ λέγουσιν οἱ ἀπὸ Πινδαρίωνος. ἀναλογία, φασίν, ὁμολογουμένως ἐκ τῆς συνηθείας ὁρμᾶται· ἔστι γὰρ ὁμοίου τε καὶ ἀνομοίου θεω- ρία,

Thus, by rejecting custom through custom, they will make the same thing at once trustworthy and untrustworthy. Unless, perhaps, they say that they do not simultaneously reject and accept the same custom, but reject one custom and accept another. This is also what the followers of Pindarion say. Analogy, they say, admittedly proceeds from custom, for it is the study of similarity and dissimilarity.

Ainsi, en rejetant l’usage au moyen de l’usage, ils rendront la même chose à la fois digne et indigne de foi.
