Ἀρχὴ τοίνυν καὶ ὥσπερ θεμέλιος τῆς Χαλδαϊκῆς ἐστι τὸ στῆναι τὸν ὡροσκόπον ἀπὸ τούτου γὰρ τὰ λοιπὰ τῶν κέντρων λαμβάνεται, τά τε ἀποκλίματα καὶ αἱ ἐπαναφο- ραὶ τά τε τρίγωνα καὶ τὰ τετράγωνα καὶ οἱ κατʼ αὐτὰ σχηματισμοὶ τῶν ἀστέρων, ἀπὸ δὲ πάντων τούτων αἱ προαγορεύσεις.

The principle and, as it were, foundation of the Chaldean art is the establishment of the Ascendant. For from this the other centers are determined, as well as the declining places, post-ascensions, trines, squares, and the configurations of the stars in them; and from all these come the predictions.

Le principe et, pour ainsi dire, le fondement de la doctrine chaldéenne consiste à déterminer l’horoscope. C’est à partir de lui que sont déterminés les autres centres, les déclins, les lieux succédents, les triangles, les carrés et les configurations correspondantes des astres; et c’est de tous ces éléments que proviennent les prédictions.
