Origins, practices, and debates

Judaism joins texts, practices, calendars, and communities whose history cannot fit into a formula. In the time of Hillel and Jesus, Second Temple Judaism was already plural and marked by debates about law, worship, and right living.

After the destruction of the Temple, rabbinic traditions develop other forms of transmission and interpretation. This page distinguishes ancient sources in the corpus from later reconstructions and does not turn a thematic resemblance into an automatic line of influence.
